Pewter bead, charm and zink alloy bead and charm difference
Pewter and zink alloy are 2 most widely used metal to make metal jewelry.
Pewter is a malleable metal alloy, traditionally between 85 and 99 percent tin, with the remainder consisting of copper, antimony, bismuth and lead. Copper and antimony act as hardeners while lead is common in the lower grades of pewter, which have a bluish tint. It has a low melting point, around 170–230 °C (about oven temperature), depending on the exact mixture of metals
The bad things is that Pewter is include high lead in it which is very harmful to people when people wear jewely made by Pewter, This material is first used to produce jewley by korean,Now still used to make jewlery .but we never use this material now.
Pewter can become liquid between 170–230 °C, Zink alloy becomes liquild above 300 °C,this temperature is too high to use silicon mold to proudce jewelry, even zink alloy is lead free ,under 90 ppm.
Nowdays, Big manfacture use stainless injection mold to produce jewelry by zink alloy , this is good way to solve lead problem ,zink alloy jewelry ,no lead has become truth.
How can you know the difference between pewter and zink alloy jewelry when you buy it.
you can judge this by weight not destroy jewlery, heavy one is made by pewter , light one is made by zink alloy.
